German WWI Germany MIG EX-Sawback Bayonet-This is a choice example! This measures approx. 20 ½ inches (52.07cm) in length. It has a ribbed wooden handle which is a nice brown color. The handle is in very good condition. The steel scabbard retains 80% of its original anodized finish. This style of bayonet was called the “butcher bayonet” because at one time, it had a sawback edge. A very deadly weapon. After the Geneva convention, all serrated edge bayonets were banned, so these original sawback edges were ground down. This is what you are seeing here. The blued blade on this bayonet is gorgeous. It is very nicely marked under the steel crossguard for Fichtel & Sachs Schweinfurt. It has an 1916 acceptance mark on the backstrap. This mark can also be seen on the pommel. This is a very desirable piece, in choice condition.
