German WWI Imperial Officer’s Belt Buckle-This is a multi-piece example of an officer’s buckle that has a beautiful nickel silver finish which is mostly intact. It does have some light wear of course. The Imperial crown is attached to the round buckle by a set of prongs. There were originally four prongs holding the crown onto the rondel, but there are only two prongs present. You can see two holes on the reverse where the other prongs should be. There is some toning to the silver on the reverse. There is some darkening on the side of the buckle and on part of the catch. Someone has scratched a prominent “A” into the metal of the catch, very interesting. This is a choice example of a very early, personalized buckle.
