German WWI Machine Gun Wall Plaque-This is not necessarily what the title indicated; this is a unique souvenir presented to the HMS Marne by the British War Office after the battle of the Marne in September of 1914. All of this is clearly engraved in the brass rectangular plaque which is mounted onto a larger shield type of black wooden wall plaque. The entire piece measure approx. 12” across by 14” high. It’s really interesting as there is a contour to the brass plaque itself. This has no noticeable device for hanging on a wall so perhaps it was also used as a desk ornament. Alternatively, the wooden piece may be something that was added by a collector at some point. I’m just not sure. Interesting piece!
