German WWII 98K Bayonet by E. Packe & Sohne-This bayonet is in very sound condition. This is an unmatched example. The finish on the pommel has lifted some, so please be sure to look closely at the photos. The grip plates are slotted and made of brown Bakelite. The grip is in good condition. The backstrap has a few dents, but as you know anything becomes a hammer if you need one. This example has the usual waffenamts all over the place including the pommel and ball of the scabbard. The steel scabbard is near excellent, and retains the majority of its finish, that has toned to a nice dark color. The scabbard is maker marked on one side for Coppel G.m.b.H with a date of 1939. (Remember Coppel is also known as Alcoso). The other side shows the serial number 3568/g. The blade is actually in very good condition. It has a nice blued finish. One side of the blade shows the “E.Pack & S” name, with the other side showing the serial number 6285/f. The blued blade has the usual finish missing towards the tip and does show some “war time” sharpening. This bayonet has that “been there… done that” look to it that you want to see in a combat bayonet. This is a solid sound piece that has a lot of character.
