German WWII Cased 2nd Class Luftschutz (RLB) Medal-This is a different variant than we usual encounter. These medals are mostly made in zinc. This beautiful example is made of aluminum. This medal was awarded to persons who had served honorably in the civil defense of Germany since Jan 30th, 1933, whether in the RLB, the SHD, Werkschutz (Fire & Emergency Police or the Ordinary Police). The award is round and produced in a bright shiny aluminum. The obverse features a large swastika with the inscription “Für Verdienste im Luftschutz” surrounded by an oak leaf wreath. The reverse has the wreath, and the center of the badge simply states the date, 1938. An original portion of purple, red and white ribbon is included. The ribbon is clean, and the colors are still bright and vibrant. There is no pin on this ribbon. This ribbon is cased in its original box, which is nicely marked, though not maker marked. The box shows some slight wear (discoloration on upper right top corner) but no scuffing. This is a very fine example of this type decoration!
