German WWII DRK Red Cross Hewer-This is the iconic example of a DRK Hewer that would be used by medics in the field. The matte nickel silver plated fittings are 95% intact. There is some slight finish loss to the lower reverse of the pommel. The obverse of the cross guard bears an excellent oval medallion topped by a DRK-style German national eagle. The black bakelite grip plates are perfect. One side is checkered, and the other side plain, just as they should be. Both sides of this grip are in very good condition, though there is a tiny scuff on the reverse. The scabbard’s black finish is 85% intact, though there are a few scuffs and a scratch on the reverse. The matte silver fitting on the tip of the scabbard and on the throat are in very good condition. The polished steel blade has the correct blunted tip, serrated lower edge, and has fullers running most of the length of each side. This blade is in near excellent condition. It does show some in and out marks but is nicely marked under the reverse langet for Ges.Geschutz. The thick brown buffer is still in place under the crossguard. This comes with a black patent leather frog that is also in very good condition. The frog is marked on the reverse with a stamped “H”.
