German WWII German WWII Wireless Operator’s/Air Gunner’s Badge (Fliegerschützenabzeichen) by Junker- This is a choice example of a marked badge, in silvered tombac. It is maker marked on the reverse of the eagle with C.E. Juncker.  This choice piece is a textbook example, of early fine quality badge. On this example, the wreath is nicely toned. The nickel/silver eagle is excellent, having no visible wear and having toned nicely. This has beautiful details throughout. The eagle is quite secure to the wreath with the two small rivets. The reverse features a sheet metal hinge, a needle pin and a flat wire, “C” shaped catch. A fine example of a desirable badge!

History: The Wireless Operator/Air Gunner qualification badge was introduced by Hermann Göring in March of 1936, as an award to radio operators, air gunners and mechanics who had met the required criteria. The Wireless Operator/Air Gunner badge was awarded on an individual basis and the main criteria for bestowal was the completion of five operational flights over enemy territory or a minimum of two months active service.
