German WWII Luftwaffe Tropical Field Cap- This is a very interesting example and is worth a second look. I believe this was originally a Kriegsmarine model 41 type tropical cap that was used by a Luftwaffe solider. It has a nicely hand applied Luftwaffe tropical eagle on a triangle, which I am confident is original to the piece. It then has a standard tropical cockade with tan backing which is hand applied to the front. The size 55 liner is a golden silk material and shows light wear but no damage. The owner’s initials are inked into the liner and then perhaps it was the veteran wrote in ink underneath the visor “St. Raphael France.” The exterior of the cap shows wear, staining, and some fading. To me, everything adds up on this cap ad tells me it is an untouched example.
