German WWII Model 1938 Double Decal Paratrooper Helmet-This was like seeing an old friend again after many years. I originally bought this helmet in the 1980s at a militaria show in Stratford, CT. It was a walk-in and certainly made my day. I bought it back around 2004, then sold it again to a nice chap from New Zealand. He just traded it back to me and so it is once again available for its next caretaker. It’s just as untouched as it was the very morning I bought it for $$$. The apple green paint is approximately 75% present. The standard Luftwaffe eagle has some good chunk missing so let’s call it 50% intact/ The tricolor shield has fared better and it rates about 90%. Of course, it has the first pattern spanner bolts which are absolutely not buggered. The well size 59 marked leather liner is in very nice shape. The lot number in the rear of the skirt is 3965 which placed it in the 1938 production vintage. It has the grey neoprene pads which according to the fine Brian Ice book begin to show up around this time. It has the desirable brown leather harness with suede interior which is cracked in placed and fragile but still intact. This is a rare helmet in sound condition.
