Kugler was decorated for a decisive local action where his company successfully held its ground or launched a critical counterattack against overwhelming Soviet forces. He held the collapsing lines during the battles near Danzig, leaving time for the wounded and civilians to be evacuated. This black and white photo measures 3 ¼ inches (8.25cm) wide, and 5 inches (12.7cm) tall. It is signed by Kugler at the bottom, in blue ink, his name is also on the back in blue ink. This photo was signed in the 1980’s when it was popular to write to surviving veterans to ask for memorabilia. Kugler survived the war, and died in 1995 in Munich. This photo is in very good condition.
