German WWII SA Dagger by Giesen & Forsthoff-This is an early example of an SA dagger. This has nickel silver fittings that retain the majority of their matte silver finish. The crossguard is Gruppe marked Wf for Westfallen district. The brown wooden handle is perfect and has a nice nickel silver eagle that is toned to the same color as the cross guards. The SA runic button has nice clear enamel, though it shows some light scuffing. The anodized scabbard retains 85% of its original finish. The nickel fittings are excellent. The ball tip is just slightly flattened, but this is not a real liability. The “Alles fur Deutschland” motto on the blade is deeply etched. The blade is in very good condition. There are some hints of sharpening and you can see some runner marks. You can see the factory cross graining as well. The reverse of the blade shows the logo for a very scarce maker. You can see the G&F for Giesen & Forsthoff. This firm set up a cutlery shop in Solingen in 1920 and have been selling blades for over 100 years. They are still in business today, and you can still buy shaving implements. A very good blade made by a quality, though rarely seen maker.
