German WWII SA Tinnie Sports Festival Ludwigshafen A/Rh June 11, 1933-This tinnie is made out of a stamped brass and is in the shape of a shield. Inside the center of the shield, you can see an athlete preparing to throw the shotput. You can see a dramatic building behind, perhaps a church or state building. This tinnie commemorates the sports festival in the city of Ludwigshafen Germany in 1933. Interesting that the city of Ludwigshafen was the home of one of the worst industrial explosions in German history, when on Sept. 21, 1921, a BASF storage silo blew up, killing more than 500 people, injuring a further 2,000, and destroying countless buildings. They were then hit very hard by the economic crisis in 1929. This city suffered a lot. Ok, back to the badge, please take a look at the photos to look at the details and workmanship on this tinnie. The text on the textured background of the trim is terrific, as is the tone and look of this badge. It has a gorgeous glow to it. There is a horizontal pin on the reverse that works perfectly.  It’s too bad this badge isn’t maker marked; it would be nice to see who put so much love into making this little sports badge. This is one of my favorites and extremely early!
