German WWII VDA Postcard of Knights Cross Recipient Oberleutnant Wolfgang Späte- The VDA (Verband Deutscher Artisten, a German artists' association) produced a postcard series featuring images of German military personnel who received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. His features Wolfgang Späte who was a fighter pilot in World War II who was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. He was a highly decorated pilot, achieving 32 aerial victories and 2 Soviet barrage balloon victories in the Balkans campaign. Späte retired in 1967 and passed away in 1997. This card is in very good condition. The reverse is setup as a traditional postcard style, and has the caption, Series Nr. 3641, and a space for the note and address. There is the photographer’s logo in the upper right where the postage would go. We are including 2 candid photos of Späte along with the postcard. One small photo measures 2 inches (5.08cm) wide by 3 inches (7.62cm) tall. The group photo measures approx. 2 ½ inches (6.35cm) tall by 4 inches (10.16cm) wide. This is an excellent display piece.
