German WWII Waffen-SS Officer’s Black Panzer M-43 Cap- Acquired directly from the son of a US WWII Navy veteran. The father had passed away several years ago and the sons were cleaning out the house. Among his military belongings was this rare W-SS officer’s Panzer cap. They had no explanation except that it had been with his items since he returned home in 1946. This is an outstanding example made of black wool with a two-button closure. It is the much more desirable style having the flat wire hand applied skull to the front and the BeVo adler on the side flap. It is also a great example because it has been professionally upgraded to an officer by the application of the silver bullion piping to the top edge of the hat. This is professionally done and guaranteed to be wartime. This is not your standard “off the shelf” cookie cutter production piece, which is also appealing. It does not have the ribbed cloth strips of cotton under the flaps. It also has a black quilted liner which appears to be a size 57. This is all in line with other original examples I have encountered of field caps. The overall condition is near excellent with no visible damage or repairs and moderate use.
