Spectacular Army Generals Dagger Set by the firm of Arthur Schüttelhöfer & Co.-This is one I literally acquired from the son of a veteran as a "walk in" back in the 1980s at the Stratford, CT. militaria show. It's been through a few hands since then but it's good to see an old friend again. There was not a special dagger for generals so a standard army dagger was sent off and gilted to make it very distinctive. The gilt fittings are a solid 70% including the pommel, crossguard and scabbard. It has a pumpkin orange colored celluloid grip, with undented gilt finished scabbard. The handle has a few very slight chips and one small age crack near the top. The blade is in full polish and the maker's logo reads A. Schüttelhöfer & Co. Solingen-Wald within an oval shaped shield having a pair of crossed horses and the abbreviated name ASSO. This is a desirable maker. The scabbard throat fitting is a bit loose but the leather washer is present. This is complete with a nice set of army hangers which have a pale green velvet backing, with brass buckles and clips. I believe these originally had silver plating but that is gone and therefore makes a nice match for the dagger. Spectacular offering!
