“The Secretary: Martin Bormann, The Man who Manipulated Hitler” by Jochen von Lang-This paperback book was written with the assistance of Claus Sibyll and translated from German by Christa Armstrong and Peter White. This is the first American edition, published in 1981 in Athens, Ohio by Ohio University Press. It is very interesting that during WWII, most of the regular German people did not know the name Martin Bormann, but everyone else behind the party scenes certainly did. He was known by Hitler as his “most loyal Party comrade” and became Hitlers confidant and advisor. In fact, he was secretly steering the party through the “crime, duress, and tragedy”, while he was secretly ruling Germany. This book contains 430 pages. This book allows the reader a chance to meet this Hitler’s most loyal servant in his entourage. Bormann was tried at Nuremburg, and condemned to death in absentia. There has always been the question of where he was? Did he flee to Argentina, Chile and Brazil like some other SS men? Jochen von Lang, the author, has tracked down the rumors. He concludes that Bormann died in May 1945, during the final days of the Third Reich. He shot himself, not far from Hitler's bunker in Berlin. After a failed recovery in 1965 they tried again in 1972. This time a body was found. Von Lang was able to trace dental charts and worked with military physicians and came to the conclusion that this was the remains of Bormann. This book is full of excellent investigative journalism. The book itself is in very good condition. The covers show slight shelf wear and some scuffing from normal use, but the book itself is excellent.
