US Navy Officer’s Sword Named to Vice Admiral Richard F. Whitehead-Handsome example, though not certain of the vintage, but you do the research and you reap the benefits. This has a beautiful very ornate brass hilt with cutouts of serpents and USN. It has a real sharkskin handle with brass wire grip wrapping. The scabbard is a black leather, with solid brass fittings. The lower section of the scabbard is separated from the rest of the body, as you can see in the photos. This has an extremely nice double engraved blade, with the name of the officer, engraved on the blade. The rest of the motif is patriotic, and it is in beautiful shape. This sword was made by A. Shuman in Boston Massachusetts. It is complete with the original but damaged officer’s portepee. It measures 37” in length, with a blade being 29 ½”.    Overall, very good condition.
