Veteran Bring Back German WWII Eastern People’s Award 2nd Class in Gold W/O Swords in Packet-This is a handsome example. This example has lost all of its original gold finish, though it still has crisp details. The green and red ribbon is very clean and looks great. The pin setup functions as intended. This has its original packet of issue. There is no maker marked on the envelope (or medal). A handsome award. We will supply the name of the veteran who brought this home, to the buyer. We have a few of these and the one you receive will be as good if not better than the one in the photograph.
History: These were awarded in two different classes (1st and 2nd) at three different levels (bronze, silver, gold) for both bravery (with swords) and service (without swords) to Russian volunteers fighting under German leadership. This medal was first established in 1942. These Eastern people’s awards are very pretty, with the large starburst, with or without added swords, and a large edelweiss in the center. The association with the edelweiss flower stems from "Operation Edelweiss," a crucial German offensive in the Caucasus region during World War II, where the harsh mountainous terrain was likened to the edelweiss flower's environment. They came in first class and second class similar to the war merit cross.
