WWII German Kriegsmarine U Boat Crew Member Soldbuch-This has a page by page, detailed explanation of every entry. It is great! The book is to Bootsmaaten Herbert Friedlein who at the age of 19 enlisted in the Kriegsmarine with 2.Admiral der Nordsee. Following five years of basic and practical training to qualify him to serve on all forms of ships, he was assigned to the 2.Unterseebootsflottille in Lorient, France on May 23, 1941 with the rank of Bootsmaaten (petty officer). Shortly after his assignment in Lorient he was reassigned to the 29.Unterseebootsflottille in La Spezia, Italy. He was promoted to Oberbootsmaaten (chief petty officer) on October 1, 1942. He was eventually transferred to the U boat tender “Waldemar Kophamel” which was sunk off the coast of Germany on December 18, 1944. He had been reassigned before the sinking thankfully. After a period of time (medical issues) he went to navigational school in April 1945. He was with a submarine training division in Neustadt until the end of the war. There are no awards listed but there is a lot of other information, mostly transcribed in the included paperwork. The book is in fine condition with normal wear and discoloration. His name is hand written onto the front cover and his picture is included. A great reference and piece!
