WWII German Luftwaffe DAK Tropical Model 1940 Single Decal Helmet, Named to 1st Lt.-This great example features traces of the distinct, "pink" hued tan camo finish exclusively used by soldiers of the Deutsches Afrika Korps. This was applied over the original blue grey Luftwaffe finish and then painted over with a field grey finish which is prominent now. So, lets call this a "triple reissue"! We believe the decal was "liberated" as there is some wear and traces of each finish coat over it. The camo finish was applied to the inner skirt which is a very neat feature. The rear skirt has white script that reads "Oltn. Herrmann". The brown leather, size 57 liner is in very good condition with some minor wear and discoloration from use. There is a drawstring and a reinforced aluminum liner band which is maker marked, dated 1938 and size stamped 64/57. The side of the interior is stamped ET 64 indicating production by Eisenhuttenwerke of Thale in the size of 64. The rear skirt is stamped with the lot number 1610 indicating production some time in 1938. There is a brown leather chinstrap which has some minor wear. A fantastic piece overall!
