Document Grouping to Obergefreiter Helmut Thiele-The grouping consists of the following documents:
1) Award document for the Fallschirmschützenabzeichen (Paratrooper Badge) issued in Berlin on 15 March 1943. Document has a facsimile signature of General der Flieger (Full General of Flying Troops) Gustav Kastner-Kirdorf (awarded the German Cross in Gold on 21 April 1943; committed suicide in Berchtesgaden on 4 May 1945);
2) Award document for the Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe (Ground Combat Badge of the Air Force) dated 1 April 1944. The document reveals that Thiele was assigned to Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 8 of the 3. Fallschirmjäger-Division (3rd Paratrooper Division). Document is signed by Generalleutnant Richard Schimpf (Knight's Cross on 6 October 1944 and German Cross in Gold on 1 January 1945), the divisional commander of the 3. Fallschirmjäger-Division. An Obergefreiter Helmut Thiele, born on 9 September 1915, appears on the German War Graves website. This Helmut Thiele was killed in action on 20 February 1945 and is buried in the German Military Cemetery in Sandweiler, Luxembourg, where other members of the 3. Fallschirmjäger-Division were interred after the fighting in the area of the Eifel Mountains, namely Prüm.
