German WWII 98K Combat Bayonet-This is a rare, early Austrian made bayonet with matching numbers. The finish on the hilt and the scabbard has toned to a gorgeous dark gray color. The brown ribbed bakelite grip plates are in very good condition. The mortise button works. There are waffenamts on the hilt etc. And speaking of the gorgeous scabbard, it retains its original finish, which has faded to look like a dark steel color. Someone has used this scabbard as a hammer. You can see light tiny dents on both the front and the reverse. It is well marked with serial number 2199/B. The tone of the scabbard complements the fittings, giving this bayonet a very nice look. The blade is untouched and still has a fine layer of grease on it. The blade is near excellent. It has the matching serial number 2199/B on the obverse, and the code bym for Genossenschafts Maschinenhaus (G.M.) of Ferlach, Austria. This comes with a brown leather frog that is still soft and supple. The frog is unmarked and shows wear but is in overall very good condition. In fact, this bayonet is in very good condition and worth a close look.
