German WWII 98K Combat Bayonet-This is an untouched example. There is some surface rust on the hilt and crossguard. There are waffenamts is in place on the hilt. The mortise functions as it should. The wooden grip plates show wear from being handled, but this gives them a nice look. The two rivets are in place holding the grip plates tightly to the bayonet. The scabbard has a light coat of rust that matches the above fittings. This is a matching set. The scabbard has the serial number 2169. The blade is very good and retains its bluing. It has the matching serial number 2169 on the obverse, and the makers code of cux and date of 44. CUX is the code assigned to the maker C.U. Schmidt of Solingen, Germany. This blade is excellent. The dark brown leather frog shows discoloration from age and storage, but it is still pliable and looks great with this bayonet. Be aware that the stud on the retaining strap is missing. Overall, this is near excellent, with a very clean blade.
