German WWII Luftwaffe Generals Sword-This is a gorgeous sword in every way! The hilt is made of brass with beautiful gild. The fixtures are heavily ornated with awesome detailing. This has a double folding guard, which still functions properly. The silver over brass Luftwaffe eagle shows excellent detail. There is some slight finish loss to the eagle, so please see photos. This is triple riveted to the clam shell. The handle with wire wrap is in excellent shape. The black leather scabbard shows light cracking throughout but is still very supple with all of the stitching on the reverse in place. There are a few scuffs to the leather. The brass scabbard fittings are in very good condition, and do not show any major denting. The small brass clip is on the reverse of the top fitting. There is a label taped to the top fitting of the scabbard, it reads “H. J. Stanley/Elyria, Ohio. Not sure if this is the veteran who brought this home, or a previous owner, but we have not removed this. The blade which has the 1935-41 Eickhorn trademark is in excellent condition with blued and engraved panels on both sides. One side translates in gold lettering, which is 85% intact, to “In Grateful Recognition”. The excellent bluing in this panel, which is surrounded by heavy filigree engraving is 90% in place. The other side of the blade, also heavily engraved with a blue paneled center motif has the very desirable gilded engraving which translates to the “The Supreme Commander of the Luftwaffe Hermann Göring “. The bluing in this panel is also excellent. This sword is truly a piece of art. Not only is it a rare piece, but one of the more beautiful swords we have offered. This sword is in near excellent condition. It measures 36” in length (91.44 cm).
