German WWII SA Dagger by Herder-This is a handsome early example. The brown wooden handle has toned to a nice warm brown color. There is a small chip on the obverse, to the left side just under the top fitting and a scratch on the reverse. The nickel silver eagle and the enameled SA runic button are excellent. The eagle has a nice tone that complements the color of the wooden handle. The nickel silver on the crossguard and pommel is sound and has a matte tone that looks very good.  The handle is nice and tight as well. There is a SA gruppe mark “Nrh” marked on crossguard, and this would be for the district of Niederrhein. The dark brown anodized scabbard is very good with the finish being 90% in place, though there is very slight crazing throughout but this is natural and doesn’t distract. The fittings are a nice tone, one that complements the dagger fittings. The ball on the tip is slightly flattened. There are spots of verdigris throughout the fitting that we have not cleaned up. We will leave that up to you. The blade itself is in very nice condition; the obverse has a gorgeous motto “Alles fur Deutschland” that is deeply etched and has a slight burnishing giving this a great look. You can still see some slight factory cross graining on this blade. On the reverse, is the crossed key logo for the maker, F. Herder AS. This is a handsome example of a classic early SA dagger. Very desirable.
