German WWII Single Engraved Short Model Dress Bayonet by Klaas-This is a handsome bayonet. The nickel silver fittings retain 95% of their finish The mortise button functions as intended. This has the red felt in the slot which means that this bayonet would be worn by an artillery man. The checkered grip plates are very good, except there is some wear on the reverse side. This almost looks to be damage from heat, like it has slightly melted. Be sure to look at the reverse grip, just under the pommel, over the top screw. The leather buffer remains in place under the crossguard. The finish on the scabbard remains 95% in place. There is a slight dent about a third of the way up from the scabbard ball. The scabbard ball has lost some of its original finish. The blade is excellent. The engraving “Zur Erinnerung an Meine Dienstzeit” (In remembrance of my service time) is deeply etched. The reverse of the blade has the kissing crane logo for Robert Klaas.
