German WWII Totally Ground Röhm SA Dager by Eickhorn-This is a good-looking early example of a totally ground Röhm. The brown wooden handle has toned to a nice warm brown color. There is a chip on the reverse. This chip happened a long time ago, as it has worn down to a nice smooth edge. The nickel silver eagle and the enameled SA runic button are very good. The enamel on the button is nice and clear. Both are a tight fit to the handle. The plating on the crossguard and pommel is excellent. The handle is nice and tight as well. There is an “8” marked under the crossguard, and this would be the number assigned to the craftsman who was selected to put this special dagger together at the factory. The reverse of the lower cross guard is marked with the SA Gruppe mark “He” for Hessen. The scabbard is very interesting, as it has lost its finish, and is covered in a coat of rust that is almost the exact color the anodizing should be. Very interesting. The rust covers approx. 90% of the scabbard, and as I said, it actually doesn’t look that bad. The blade itself is in very good condition; the obverse has the motto deeply etched. The reverse shows the where the dedication was removed, and an early Eickhorn squirrel logo just below the crossguard. This example comes with a brown leather vertical hanger. The nickel silver snap clip is marked with RZM M5/8 for the maker Assmann. Overall, it is a very good early example.
