WWII British OSS Heavy Fighting Knife w/Scabbard-This is a choice example of a British OSS heavy fighting knife, also known as a smatchet. This is a formidable fighting knife/machete designed by William Fairbairn for close-quarters combat, used by elite British SAS and American OSS operatives for covert missions. It is known for its heavy chopping power, unique shape, and psychological impact. It served as a brutal but effective silent weapon for behind-enemy-lines operations. The pommel is made of solid cast aluminum and is strong enough for use as a weapon itself. The wooden grip plates are held on with two large rivets. The wood has toned to a nice dark brown color. The steel crossguard has lost any finish it once had but has toned to match both the pommel cap and blade, giving this an awesome look. This measures 16 ½ inches (42cm) in overall length, with a heavy 11-inch (27.94cm) blade. The unmarked blade is excellent. This comes with a black scabbard that is actually rarer than the knife. This is hardwood covered in black leather that is excellent. This is an amazing offering.
