German WWII Model 43 INERT Potato Masher-This stick grenade is missing part of the top fuse. It also has some rusting to the head, you can see some slight bubbling under the green paint. The finish on the head is 95% in pace. The head is marked and dated 44, though the makers mark is very faint and difficult to make out. The solid wooden stick is in very good condition. It has no markings that we can find. The Model 43 (M43) Potato Masher (Stielhandgranate) was a simplified, late-war stick grenade, changing from earlier models by having a solid, non-hollow handle and a fuse (Bz39) located at the top of the head. This made it much easier and faster to produce. It also allowed it to be used without the handle, and improving its range and simplicity over the M24. This design saved production time by eliminating drilling the handle, making it a staple infantry weapon. This is a desirable, later war offering.
