Japanese WWII Imperial Army Officers Sash and Sword Knot-This is known as a shikobai or a ceremonial sash. This is made of silk and features the red and white stripes. This sash is approx. 2 inches (5.8cm) in width. It features a large knot with tassels that are approx. 5 inches (12.7cm) in length. This sash is looped but measures approx. 40 inches (101.6cm). A 40-inch (101.6cm) length strongly indicates that this piece is an Imperial Japanese Army Officer's Weekly Duty Sash (Shūban Kenshō).  This would be worn diagonally over a service tunic. This specific type of  red-and-white ribbed sash was worn draped over the left shoulder and fastened under the right arm or tucked into the belt. This confirms that the officer wearing it was serving as the designated duty officer for the week, making him responsible for daily routines, roll calls, and maintaining general security inside the military installation. This sash shows wear from use, but is in very good condition.
