German 1936 Olympic Merit Plaque Non Portable Award- Rather than being awarded to athletes, this was awarded for meritorious service and behind-the-scenes organizational support during the 1936 Summer Olympic Games. This is a gorgeous square, silvered-bronze oak leaf frame enclosing a white enameled depiction of the Brandenburg Gate. The white enamel is in excellent condition. It features the text "1936 XI. OLYMPIADE BERLIN" above the Olympic rings. The top of the plaque displays a radiant swastika accompanied by the raised inscription: "FÜR VERDIENSTE UM DIE XI. OLYMPIADE, BERLIN 1936" (For Meritorious Service to the 11th Olympiad, Berlin 1936. This is multipiece, and you can see that there are two rivets that hold the enameled applique in place. The details and colors to this plaque are beautiful. The white enamel against the silvered bronze and sunburst are really striking. This measures approx. 72 mm in width by 100 mm in height. A beautiful table award in excellent condition overall.
