German WWI Cased Bavarian Military Merit Cross Fourth Class-This is exquisite. This is the 4th class version, with swords and the crown. This is a near perfect example with some of the original gold gilting finish remaining on both the crown and swords. Both the crown and the swords have a great tone to the tombac base. The blue enamel on the Maltese cross is gorgeous and shows only light wear. The ring is marked 900 for its silver content. The back of one of the blades of the swords is stamped J.L. 900 indicating production by J Leser and the silver content of 900. This is complete with the original portion of ribbon and also its blue leatherette case of issue. The case has an off-white silk lining. The case itself is marked in silver printing on the top. The silver has been worn off the embossed script, but you can still read the text. The blue case shows slight scuffing and some discoloration on the bottom but overall, in very good condition. Excellent example!

History: The Bavarian Military Merit Medal 4th Class (Bayern Militär-Verdienstorden 4. Klasse) was awarded in 1866 by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It was the regions highest decoration for bravery and military merit for officers, in the service of Bavaria.
