German WWII DLV Air Sports Association Pilot’s Insignia-This is a scarce piece to encounter. It is a hand embroidered silver aluminum set of wings with a wreath and central black threaded mobile swastika in the center. This measures 125mm in wingspan, and 25mm in height. This is missing any backing. It has remnants of threads around the Luftwaffe gray trim which may be from being removed from a tunic. This is excellent.
History: Since the Treaty of Versailles officially forbade Germany from building fighter planes of any sort, the German Air Sports Association used gliders to train men still officially civilians for the future Luftwaffe. This air sports organization officially became the NSFK in 1937.
