WWII German Spanish Cross for Next of Kin-The Spanish Cross for Next of Kin (Ehrenkreuz für Hinterbliebene deutscher Spanienkämpfer) was instituted on April 14, 1939, to honor the families of German volunteers from the Condor Legion who died, went missing, or died from disease and injuries during the Spanish Civil War. Only 315 of these crosses were ever awarded, making it an exceptionally rare decoration. This example is bronzed zinc with minor toning and wear to the finish. The details are excellent. It retains its original ribbon and ring. Interestingly, this medal was removed from a scrapbook. Was it the family of the German soldier or the GI who brought it back? No one can say but it is clear that it was in a scrapbook for a very long time. This is an extremely scarce medal!
