British Pith Helmet Dated 1942-This is a good example of a British wartime pith helmet. These helmets were made of a hardened cork material, covered in khaki cotton drill material. Underneath this is lined in a silver foil to reflect the tropical sun. You can actually see a hint of this silver foil if you look inside, at the center of the cap. The top of the cap has a ventilation button. There is the khaki colored center band as well. There is one spot of discoloration on the right side of the center band, please be sure to look closely at the photos. The underside of the cap is lined in green velvet that is also in good condition. There is some moth tracking and some moth bites on this felt. The leather sweatband is in place and well marked for “Wards” and dated 1942. Please be aware that the chinstrap is missing on this example. This cap would have been worn most likely while in North Afrika or the Middle East during this time period. A good looking example.
