Model 1891 Prussian Artillery Officer Pickelhaube-This is a black leather helmet that has beautiful brass fittings. This is a Model 1891, with this style being in use up until WWI. This would be worn by officer ranks. This has a body of black patent leather. There is some minor age crazing and fading but this looks really good considering the age. This has the distinctive Koenig (frontal plate) with the crowned eagle in the center. This plate retains its gold finish, and even has some gilt frosting remaining on the wings and crown. The top round ball, base plate, spine trim and front visor trim are all brass as well. The top ball is slightly misshapen, as though it was dropped and slightly bent to the left. We have not attempted to fix this. Despite this, the top brass is in very good condition overall. There is a scaled zinc chinstrap in place. This has lost its original finish, so it has a dark gray appearance. The cockades are both in place. The ersatz leather sweatband is in decent condition, remains intact and very soft. The lining is a green ribbed rayon. It is marked inside with a size of 56 ½. This is a great looking and scarcely found example!
