US Marine Corps Low Cut Dress Shoes-These are made of a high-quality dark brown leather. They are a size 9EE. The USMC low quarter shoe was introduced in 1942 as an eventual replacement for the high-top leather shoe. Intended for garrison use, the shoes were worn with the winter and summer service uniforms. Enlisted Men received these shoes along with a pair of Field Shoes as part of their basic clothing allowance. Officers could purchase these shoes if desired. After the Marine Corps adopted a full-fledged field shoe in 1941, the high-top leather shoe, which had been serving in the pre-war years as both a field and garrison shoe, became expendable in favor of the cheaper to produce low quarter type. The old high-top leather shoe, last contracted in 1942, served alongside the new low quarter model throughout much of WWII until the latter shoe became more prevalent toward the end of the War. There are steel toe taps on these shoes, but the tap on the left side of the left shoe is missing. These are in very good condition otherwise.
