WWII Japanese Officer’s Map Case for POW-This is the hard-shell brown leather version with hand stitched 5-pointed star on front flap. There is kanji handwritten under the flap, so this could be a name. The fittings are made of brass. This measures 11 inches (27.94cm) long by approx. 8 ½ inches (21.59cm) wide. The front has a slot for paperwork or maps. There is also a flap on the reverse with a second pocket which is unusual. The leather is in good condition and is very nicely toned. It could use some conditioning. There is a broken brown leather shoulder strap with adjustable buckle. This is broken so be sure to look at the photos. The interesting part of this bag is the yellow painted PW on the reverse of the bag, indicating this bag was owned by a prisoner of war. They allowed this POW to keep his bag, maybe for his personal effects? This is a good-looking piece with a lot of history.
