Third Reich Rural Police Officer (Gendarmerie) Tunic and Trouser Set, Former Member of the SS-This is a great set for a gendarmerie major who was formerly a member of the SS. It includes a service tunic, a pair of service trousers and a belt and buckle combo. The tunic is produced in blue green wool that has some minor wear, some discoloration and a number of very small moth bites. There are four pockets with scalloped flaps. The breast pockets are pleated. There is an 8 button closure and all buttons are silver finished pebbled metal. The collar and cuffs are chocolate brown badge cloth. The front and lower edges of the collar, the edge of the cuffs, the edges of the closure seam and the tail are all piped in orange. The collar tabs are orange badge cloth with silver bullion columns and tresse. The slip on shoulder boards are a matte grey flat wire braid over orange badge cloth. These are for the rank of major. There is a blue green patch with silver bullion SS runes indicating former SS personnel. The left sleeve has a silver bullion sleeve eagle that is in great condition. The interior is fully lined in greenish brown cotton. There is a single pocket on the left side. There are numerous markings all around, most of which are very faded and hard to read. You can clearly see the date 1941. The jacket is a size large. The straight legged trousers are produced in blue green wool that matches the tunic very nicely. They are clean with some wear and multiple moth holes, some of which are almost pencil eraser sized. They are piped down each leg in orange. There are vertical slash cut hip pockets, a single rear pocket with a scalloped flap and a watch pocket. There is a cinch strap in the rear. There is a four button fly with an additional button at the waist. The trousers are in 44” length and the waist is a size 30. The belt and buckle are a nice addition. The belt is dark brown leather. The buckle is matte gray zinc, each with minor wear. The buckle is maker marked on the back by Overhof and Cie. A very nice set overall!
