Japanese WWII Sake Discharge Cup-This is very wide Japanese cup or bowl that measures approx. 3 ¾ inches(9.5cm) in diameter. The cup has a hand painted design shows a star in gold gilt above green leaves. The green is the Paulownia flower crest which is associated with the Imperial family. The edge of the bowl is embellished with gold gilt. There is kanji written inside as well which most likely designates a infantry group or garrison. We have had trouble translating. The graphics inside are in very good condition. This is free of chips and any damage. These cups were called hetai-ha or discharge cups and were given to soldiers upon completing their military service. This is very well marked on the bottom.
