Austrian Model 1861 Infantry NCO Sword-The Austrian M1861 is a historically significant weapon that served as a regulation saber for the Austro-Hungarian military during the 19th century and World War I. Today, it remains the standard-issue ceremonial dress saber for the modern Austrian Armed Forces. This has nickel plated steel fittings on the pommel, guard and crossguard. The curved guard is styled to protect the hand. The finish on the fittings remains 80% intact, overall. The black handle is made of wood and has faded some. There are spots where it has lost its black finish and you can see the wood beneath. The twisted wire silver grip wrap is in place and is still nice and shiny. The steel scabbard is in excellent condition. It shows no denting and retains the majority of its silver finish. The interesting part of the scabbard for the M1861 is the introduction of a fixed suspension loop at the top alongside a single fixed side ring to prevent rattling. The scabbard is marked 33, as is the sword handle, just above the crossguard. The slightly curved blade is in very good condition. It measures 33 inches (83.82cm), with the whole sword measuring 39 inches (99.06cm). This comes with a correctly tied knot. Priced to sell.
