Two piece construction, brightly burnished highlighted gilt oval wreath with laurel leaves towards the left side and oak leaves towards the right side of the wreath, separated by three small ribbon-like loops at the bottom, a large brightly burnished, highlighted, silver frosted eagle with spread-out wings superimposed on the badge clutching a polished swastika in its talons, the reverse with two counter sunk rivets, a vertical needle style pinback with block hinge, and a flat “C” catch; manufacturer stamped with the stylized initials “GWL” of the firm of Gebrüder Wegerhoff, Lüdenscheid, measuring ca 63.18 mm (w) (inclusive of wingspan) x 52.68 mm (h), weighing ca 48.0 grams, original case constructed of heavy cardboard stock covered covered in blue leatherette paper; embossed in gold “Luftwaffe Flugzeugführer- und Beobachterabzeichen”. on top lid, interior of upper lid and lower base covered in blue flock paper, with accommodation for badge. approximately 75.4 mm x 80.7 mm x 25.8 mm; functional push button for opening and closing; intact interior hinge cover remains but loose along lower base; functional exterior metal hinge. In very good condition overall!
