Fantastic US WWII M-1 Helmet to 69th Division Major. St. Clair Liner-This is an outstanding offering. The shell is by McCord and the heat stamp number is only partially visible (174?). It is a front seam, fixed bale example with most of the original cork textured combat finish remaining intact. There is one stress crack and two other stressed areas that are not cracked. The OD 3 fixed strap has brass hardware. The front of the shell has a metal oak leaf device for a major. The liner is a St. Clair low-pressure liner with rectangular galvanized A-washers. It is in outstanding condition for such a fragile component, with no cracks or chips. Handwritten markings on both sides read “Capt. F. J. Fara, M.C.”, indicating his rank prior to promotion and supporting the conclusion that he was promoted to Major during his deployment. The liner features a hand-painted oak leaf and a 69th Infantry Division decal. The original riveted brown leather chinstrap remains fully intact. The major, Frank J. Fara, went on to be a doctor of obstetrics and gynecology. He went on to eventually become a lieutenant colonel in the army medical corps. Included is some research on Fara including a photocopy of a political sign endorsing him for Alderman of the 1st Ward. He was from Riverside, IL. Also included is a University of Illinois Commencement Ceremony brochure from when Fara graduated from college. Inside is a business card of his and a modeling photo of his daughter. A great grouping!
