German 1936 Berlin Olympics Cigarette Books Two Volume Set-This is an original set of two Berlin Olympics Cigarette Books produced by the Cigaretten Bilderdienst (Cigarette Picture Service) in Hamburg. These were printed in 1936 to celebrate the German Olympic games. These cigarette books were collected by the public before World War Two and in the early days of the war. Each album was illustrated with photographs collected by the owner from cigarette packs and then pasted into the album. This particular two album set is titled “Olympia 1936”. The cover shows a gold embossed bell with eagle and Olympic rings. These books are in large format, measuring approx. 12 inches high (30.48cm) by 9 ½ (24.13cm) inches wide. Volume 2 of this set does have its original dust cover though it does show some damage. The blue cloth hardcover on both books is in very good condition. Volume 1 contains 127 pages and looks to have all of its photos intact. There is also a color section of flags from all the countries participating. Of particular interest are some photos of Hitler and famous skater Sonja Henie. The back of the album has a Quadra-fold full color map of the Olympic venue. The map measures approx. 33 inches (83.82cm) x 12 inches (30.48cm). Volume 2 runs 165 pages and is missing quite a few of the photographs. I would approximate that 30% of the photos are in place. This is an impressive set that covers both summer and winter events.
