German Imperial Vintage Fireman’s Axe-This is an early example of a presentation axe for an Imperial fireman. These axes were actually worn during the later Weimar and TR periods. The silver axe head is made of a nickel silver covered steel, with a shiny silver finish that is 95% in place. You can see one small spot of steel coming through the finish in a couple of spots where the finish has slightly lifted. This is not a distraction. The nickel silver fittings on the black wooden handle are also near excellent. There are two nickel silver rings near the top, just under the axe head. There is a silver plaque on the side of the handle that would occasionally include the dedication message. In this case this is left blank. There are a few spots of missing black paint on the handle, but this is minimal. The end of the handle has a nickel silver “cap”. The bottom of the axe has two bolts that appear to be untouched. Overall, this is a beautiful axe in near excellent condition.
