German Pre WWII DLV Dagger by SMF-Very nice example of the early version of the DLV/NSFK Glider Pilot’s Dagger. The Moroccan blue leather handle denting on the reverse of the handle, but this has not damaged the leather. The leather is in very good condition. The early nickel silver fittings on the hilt retain the majority of their silver finish, but there is slight spotting throughout. The black enamel on the crossguard swastika is excellent. The blue pebbled buffer is still in place under the cross guard. The fittings on the scabbard are also very nice; they retain the majority of their silver finish. There is some slight scuffing to the top fitting, but this is not a distraction at all. The blue Moroccan leather on both the handle and the scabbard are in near excellent condition. Like the blue Moroccan leather handle, the leather on the scabbard shows some light indentations, but this has not damaged the leather at all. There is the distinctive DLV insignia stamped into the throat of the scabbard. Very cool! The blade is in excellent condition with a beautifully burnished SMF logo, the knight sitting on the throne. This is complete with the permanently secured short leather hanger with early nickel silver fittings. The leather has a nickel oval shaped embellishment on each side. Not sure if this was for a name? But these remain unmarked, and one side shows some finish loss to the center. These are always cool early daggers to see. A precursor to the Luftwaffe. This example is near excellent.
