German WWI Postcard of Flying Ace Oberleutnant Max Immelmann with his Fokker Aircraft-Max Immelmann was a pioneering German fighter pilot during ww1 and was known for developing the Immelmann turn, which was an aerial maneuver. Here he is pictured with his Fokker plane. He was one of the earliest and most famous of the aces, and achieved significant air victories before his death in 1916. Immelmann was the first pilot to be awarded the Pour le Mérite. On June 18, 1916 he was shot down by a British pilot, it is believed that the bullet may have hit his propeller obviously causing him a few complications. This photo measures 5 ½ inches (13.97cm) long and 4 ½ inches (11.43cm) wide. In very good condition.
