German WWII 98K Combat Bayonet-This is an untouched, uncleaned, example. The toned natural steel finish to the hilt and crossguard is excellent. There are waffenamts in place on both the pommel and the hilt. The mortise functions as it should. The wooden grip plates show wear from being handled, but this gives them a nice look. The two rivets are in place holding the grip plates tightly to the bayonet. The scabbard has a light coat of rust that matches the above fittings. This is a matching set. The scabbard has a serial number S7238. The blade is very good and retains its bluing. It has the matching serial number S7238 on the obverse, and the makers code of 735/b "735": This is the official Waffenamt (WaA) inspection code used by the German army for ordnance accepted at the Adam Opel AG factory in Brandenburg/Havel which produced these bayonets in 1940. Overall, this is near excellent, with a very clean blade.
