German WWII Army General’s Dagger-This is an unusual offering. This is set up like a regular army dagger except you can see the traces of gold finish. The plating on the hilt fittings and crossguard remain 50% in place, and again if you look closely, you can see that this was originally finished in a gold gilt. Generals always get the best stuff! The details to the pommel cap and eagle crossguard are very strong. Simply stated, it’s a regular army dagger that has been returned to the manufacturer or a qualified artisan and been gold plated. This was not a standard practice so these do not show up very often. I’ve owned a total of three of these in more than 65 years of collecting. The celluloid handle is a beautiful burnt orange color. This handle is in very good condition with no major cracking or damage. It does show a few spots of discoloration from general use, but this is not a big deal at all. The scabbard has lost the majority of its finish. The 20% that remains still shows some of the original gold gilt as well, but this is really just hinted at. The details though are very nice. The pebbling is still strong, as are the details on the scabbard bands. The scabbard is dent free. The unmarked blade is very good, though there is some discoloration just under the crossguard. This could be some rust, so please be sure to look closely at the photos. This blade fits very tightly to the scabbard. In fact, this whole dagger is nice and tight and shows no loosening at all. This is a scarce dagger that is worth taking a look at.
