German WWII Army Officer’s Dagger by Eickhorn-This is a mid-war example, as this shows the second pattern fittings of an Eickhorn dagger. The silver-plated fittings have lost some of their original antique burnishing but have a very nice patina and tone. The details on the pommel, and eagle are especially nice. The pumpkin orange celluloid handle is in very good condition. The scabbard is plated silver, with a tone that nicely matches the dagger’s fittings. The bands have good details and tone. This scabbard is an interesting variation, Eickhorn uses the center screw, which is usually on the reverse of the scabbard. For some reason this was put in the center of the obverse. The blade is in good shape. There is one spot of rusty discoloration just under the crossguard, which we have not touched. This blade has the scarcely seen smaller Eickhorn squirrel logo that was used from 1940-1941. This dagger comes with all its original accessories! There is a properly tied silver bullion officer’s portapee that does show some slight wear at the top of the acorn stem. There is also a set of army dagger hangers that are excellent shape. The silver on the fittings retains the majority of their finish and show good details. The fabric shows some slight fraying on the edges, but this is not a distraction. The green velvet backing is in very good condition, showing no moth damage or repairs.  A handsome officer’s dagger set!
